What is Pentecost?
That’s a great question! The roots of Pentecost stretch back through thousands
of years of history. Here in the 21st Century most people think of Pentecost as a
religion or a denomination within Christianity. That’s completely understandable
with over 600 million people around the world who describe themselves as
Pentecostal. But today it’s refreshing to know that Pentecost is not something
created by man. It is not a set of beliefs and practices, an organization or a
religion. Pentecost is an experience created by God for His people!
Pentecost can best be defined by the Bible, particularly in Acts 2. Acts 2
begins, “When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And
there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it set upon each
of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with
other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” What an exciting, miraculous
experience! When the New Testament church was just getting started, God
poured out His Spirit to 120 people earnestly seeking His presence.
Today, God has not changed! He still loves to fill hungry and seeking people with
the incredible gift of His Spirit. That’s what Pentecost really is … the life-changing,
supernatural encounter with the Spirit of Jesus Christ. It’s when you’ve had
enough of this world and want to catch a glimpse of another world. Pentecost is
an experience for those who want live a life filled with the Spirit that spoke the
entire universe into existence! Whether you are going through a difficult time
in your life and need answers or you feel like there has to be something more
to your walk with God, we invite you to experience life’s greatest treasure this
Sunday at AFT!
